Public Access Barrister

Instruct a barrister directly without using a solicitor

Anybody can instruct a Public Access Barrister now

Not long ago you would need to go to a solicitor and if you wanted or needed a Barrister for your legal matter the solicitor involved would be the person to instruct the barrister.

That meant the barrister had two clients :

  • the professional client (i.e. the solicitor)
  • the lay client

Now, anyone needing legal services has a wider choice and can instruct a solicitor or a Pubic Access Barrister to do legal work.

In situations where a barrister will be needed or is going to be instructed as a matter of choice this can be done without the need to use two lawyers.

The benefits overall are

  • wider choice of lawyer.
  • potentially lower costs as mostly barrister’s charges are lower than solicitors because the overheads are generally a lot lower.
  • in every case clear fixed fees are part of the contract, so no hidden charges or surprises.

There are still situations when a solicitor will have to be involved but if this proves to be the case you will be clearly advised of this necessity.

When you want to contact a Public Access Barrister you will normally speak to his or her clerk when you first call if working in a traditional Barristers Chambers or directly to the Barrister if working as a sole practitioner.

If you want to contact a sole practitioner Public Access Barrister you can Bill Ryan by calling 01225 582582 or use the contact form on the side of this page.
